How to use ChatGPT or Claude for construction estimating
Use your AI chat to work with Struvia’s plan, takeoff and estimating tools. Start with a small trade scope you can check, then build an estimate from reviewed quantities and current prices.
- Connect your account. Follow the Claude and ChatGPT connection instructions, sign in to Struvia, and confirm the correct job. Connector availability depends on your AI plan and workspace settings.
- Read the current plans. Ask for sheet references, revisions, scope by trade, conflicts and missing details. Check the citations before measuring.
- Review a takeoff. Define the trade, sheets, scale, inclusions and deductions. Approve the run, then check dimensions, openings, units and repeated items against the drawings.
- Price the scope. Review quantity × unit rate for each line. Use current local quotes; keep missing rates, allowances and contingency visible.
- Prepare bid requests. Review the scope, attachments and recipients. Ask your AI to wait for your explicit approval before sending anything.

AI output still needs an estimator’s review. Missing dimensions, unclear scale, incomplete plans and stale pricing can change the result. The connection uses your account permissions; it does not give access to other companies’ projects.

Can I use ChatGPT alone to create a reliable estimate?
A chat answer is not a checked takeoff or current supplier quote. Connecting Struvia lets your AI use available project tools, but you still need to verify the source drawings, quantities, scope and rates before bidding.
Will the AI send bid requests automatically?
Use the starter-kit prompts to prepare requests for review and require your approval before sending. Check every recipient, attachment and scope item before authorizing the action.
